Caffeinated Comics Company is working hard to become San Francisco's first certified green comic cafe. We are applying for a Green Business Designation from San Francisco's Green Business department.

From the inception of its design its Green Team strived to choose green materials and make eco friendly choices.

Materials:

Caffeinated Comics selected Plyboo as its chief building material.  It was used for its bookcases, counter fascia, and table tops.  Plyboo is a material manufactured by Smith & Fone from bamboo.  It insists on harvesting only the culm (new branches) which preserves the integrity of the plant and makes its product from a wholly renewable source.  Plyboo is urea formaldehyde free and is low VOC.  In addition, Caffeinated Comics used recycled materials for its slatwall display wall. http://www.plyboo.com/

The paints used are low VOC as well.

Caffeinated Comics has replaced all halogen and incandescent bulbs with low wattage fluorescent and LCD bulbs.  The LCD bulbs use approximately 11 cents of electricity a year.

Caffeinated Comics installed an Energy Star efficient refrigerator, freezer, and computer system.

In the restroom we disposed of the paper towel holder and installed an energy efficient American Dryer GXT ExtremeAir hand dryer.  This powerful hand dryer completely dries hands in 10-15 seconds and uses less energy than conventional hand dryers.  More importantly it eliminates a huge source of waste paper.  To learn more go to http://www.americandryer.com/.

Our coffee is purchased from Four Barrel Coffee.  Four Barrel Coffee is organic and purchased directly from growers at higher than fair-trade rates.  Four Barrel Coffee roasts locally (and in our opinion is the best damned coffee in San Francisco).

Of course, Caffeinated Comics recycles and provides convenient canisters for you to assist us in this effort.
